Kruger won a Best Actress Award at Cannes for her role of Katja Sekerci, “a scrappy wife and mother whose life is upended when her husband and child, both of Turkish descent, are killed by a terrorist bomb, in director Fatih Akin’s film ‘In the Fade.’ Now there’s talk of an Oscar nomination for Kruger’s first major starring role.
