“Couture is an attitude,” read Jeremy Scott’s statement T-shirt as he took his bow after Moschino show. And this season, the attitude he was aiming for was, evidently, trash chic. (In case you didn’t glean that from the fact that the invitation was shaped like a mousetrap.) Scott drew from the idea of a woman who had lost everything and had to make her own clothes. Apparently, the options available to her included bubble wrap, cardboard, and duct tape, to judge from the looks on display.

The runway was made out of deconstructed cardboard boxes and held together with packing tape, the clothes all riffed on things you’re likely to find in or around a dumpster. There were coats, dresses and skirts riffing on packing materials and paper bags; a series of colorful separates that appeared to be collaged from torn-out magazine pages and old Moschino advertisements; evening gowns constructed from regal scraps of fabric, shopping bags and more decorated with masking tape; and even dry-cleaning bags and bubble wrap were fashioned into evening wear that only the most adventurous (and good-humored) customers would dare to wear on a formal occasion.
